SUMMER ENGLISH CAMP

For overseas students who are keen to learn English in Singapore during the holidays! 

Open to all age groups, this is a fun way to acquire English language as you explore Singapore!

The course will invariably encourage them to use English on a regular basis and motivate them to improve their fluency and accuracy.

  • Theme-based learning approaches to expand their vocabulary to include more specialised English related to their own areas of interest. 


COURSE DELIVERABLES

By the end of the camp, participants should be able to:-


  • Express relatively competently in everyday situations in straightforward spoken and written language.

  • Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevant environment and matters in areas that are of immediate interest to them, depending on the theme of the camp.

  • Deal with situations likely to arise where the English Language is spoken and be able to describe these experiences and events, and account for their feelings.

  • Able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes communication with native speakers somewhat possible and effective.

国际学生入学考试(Admission Exam for International Students)是新加坡教育部组织的外国学生统一入学考试。考英语和数学,教育部根据考试结果统一分配学校给考生。AEIS使新加坡教育部2008年推出的考试,所有外国学生均可参加考试,教育部根据考试结果分配考生进入政府中小学,是国外学生进入新加坡政府中学的首选。

FUNDAMENTALS OF THE WORLD OF LANGUAGE -- A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Working towards A deeper understanding and appreciation for the nuances of Writing

Course Deliverables


  1. Identify collocations and word associations in given texts.

  2. Learn that connoted words carry meanings beyond the superficial or literal meanings; that, in certain contexts, these words and phrases have significant emotional implications and associations, consequently impacting readers.

  3. Understand the authors’ purpose behind the choice of words E.G EMOTIVE WORDS and to appreciate these nuances of words and meanings in the rich texts.

  4. Understand how language devices work and how such literary techniques achieve their impact on the reader in comprehension passages and visual texts.

  5. Pick out the lexical, grammatical and situational contextual clues and learn to infer responses from them, e.g the author’s tone, feelings etc.

  6. Master techniques for ‘answer in your own words’ question types by zeroing in on key words and providing suitable synonyms or appropriate phrases. 


B) Composition Skills


Secondary One

Bridging the gap between primary six and secondary writing and ensuring smooth transition to demands of story-telling in secondary school

C) Oral Examinations Workshop


Objective 


To teach students to read more effectively and expressively in areas of pronunciation, articulation, rhythm and fluency to achieve better verbal communication.

Objectives:


To allow course participants to tap into their world of experiences and transform such out-of-the-world learning journeys to personalised writing. 




Desired Outcomes/Deliverables


At the end of the themed English course, the participant:-


  • Should see that real-life encounters are life’s rich tapestries and as such, serve as invaluable resources for turning writing to personalized experiences. 

  • Should be exposed to a certain level of Standard English that gives him a confident feel of the language so that he is empowered to describe these experiences and events, and account for his feelings.

  • Should have a better grasp of the English usage with the buildup in word-bank to include specialised terms related to his own areas of interest and feel self-assured in his delivery.

  • Should know his strengths as a learner and understand his linguistic abilities.

  • Should have a heightened interest in English that stretched him to achieve or go beyond his potential competency and spur him on to further undertakings of enrichment or edification courses.
