Ms Emily is one of the best English tutors that I have ever met in life. Because of her coaching, I learned to understand, to speak, to write well in English, for the first time in my life.

Ms Emily is the only English tutor that I ever had. I have no idea where she stands among the teachers. All I know is that I did not need any other English tutor any more.
I met Ms Emily in a bridging course when I first came to Singapore. I was not able to converse well with my local friends back then. My English was so bad that I scored 3 out of 50 in my first comprehension test. I thought i was hopeless. However, Ms Emily proved me wrong. With all the vocabulary test and writing skills that she drilled into us, I scored my first 20 out of 30 for English composition after three months of her coaching.
It was more than English that I learnt from Ms Emily. She taught me important life-skills and prepared me well for Singapore's culture. Her lesson was fun and enriching. You would not regret having her to coach you.
All in all, Ms Emily is more than a tutor for English language. She is a tutor for life.

Ms Emily是我有过唯一的一位英文补习老师。之所以她是唯一的一位，是因为在她以后，我不再需要英文的补习。
我第一次见到Ms Emily是在新加坡的补习课上。但是我甚至不能与我的新加坡同学沟通。我还记得我第一次英文阅读考试。新加坡的阅读是50分满分，我考了3分。当时我以为我 没救了。但是在Ms Emily的帮助下，我渐渐拾起了信心。她教我们单词，写作技巧。经过短短三个月的训练，我在英文作文上考了20分。（在新加坡，虽然作文满分是30分，20 分已经算是接近A的分数）
英文只是我从Ms Emily那边学到的众多东西之一。她教了我重要的生活技巧。在她的帮助下，我也很快的融入了新加坡的环境。但是我们的补习课叫做bridging course。我觉得，Ms Emily就是连接了我和新加坡的桥梁。
总而言之，Ms Emily不仅仅是我的英文老师，她同时也是我生命中重要的导师。

When you have a plan to push your limits, and decide to study abroad, language barriers and sudden cultural shock might very well send your pride down to historic lows. At this stage of my life, Ms Emily came in, not only as an English tutor but also a mentor helping me to bridge the gaps. With more than 10 years experience in teaching international students, she simply knows how our brain cells tick. That being said, she knows the best approach to her Chinese audiences and understands our concern even without us mentioning it to her. “Don’t worry, your seniors experienced that as well,” she often said.
“Life Skills”, I would say, can be a highlight to her classes. I remember clearly the times before my GCE O level examination. I was totally stressed out, especially with my English results barely making to the passing marks. Ms Emily sat down with me, and she said, “Think about what’s the worst case scenario? Besides that, you are not evening getting close to that, I have faith in you.” I guess that was comforting enough for me to end up getting a B3 for my English exam.
I am now an undergraduate student in the London School of Economics. Having been through tough times like almost every international student have to, I hereby recommend Ms Emily to you. Your journey abroad demands struggle, but to make things better, you better ride through it with her.
语言和一个陌生的环境使刚到新加坡的我彷徨不已。 这段时间里，Ms Emily 所担当的角色不仅仅是一名英文教师。多达18年的经验，她对国际学生的接受能力和需求了如指掌。她常 常和我们说到，我们所想所犯的错误她都知道都能理解，因为这些都是我们师 兄师姐经历还有她自己所接触过的。
之所以可以称她为那段留学生涯的导师，是因为 她在课余可以和你谈天说地。有时聊聊新加坡文化，有时谈谈生活。让我印象 最深的是新加坡初中毕业考前，考试压力让我透不过气，特别是读了两年的英 文成绩时常没能够及格。Ms Emily把我叫了过去，她让我想象下最坏可能发生 的情况，然后告诉我，就算发生了，你的人生依旧能够走下去。况且她对 我有信心，那样的情况不会发生。那一年，我英语考试及格并拿了B3。
许多年过去了，我现在已经是伦敦经济政治学院 的一名本科生。但回想起来，留学时最初那段日子真是多亏了Ms Emily。因此，我向你推荐她，希望你也能在她的 帮助下挺过去。

When I first came to Singapore, I was completely clueless about how to improve my English and after failing my English tests for a few times, I was on the verge of giving up. Yet the advent of Ms Emily changed everything.
Ms Emily is definitely a teacher that can teach. With many years of experience in teaching English, Ms Emily is capable of organizing her lessons in an ideal manner. As such, I was able to acquire knowledge required from basic vocabularies to complex essay writing gradually and the constant progress made more and more confident of my English. In addition, I found that tips for examinations and study methods given by Ms Emily are exceptionally useful, allowing me to learn English more efficiently and effectively. With Ms Emily's help, I was able to lift my English result from F9 to B3 in O Level in just 2 years and finally scored an A in my A Level General Paper.
Moreover, it was a lot of fun to have lessons with Ms Emily. To have Ms Emily's lessons was one of the best parts of the day during my secondary school life. Her lessons were not just about reading books and taking down notes. Watching movies, visiting local places of interest and even having fun in parks, Ms Emily blended different elements to make her lessons more enjoyable for all her students. At the same time, my English skills, such as oral and reading improved while enjoying these different activities as well.
All in all, it was really fortunate to have Ms Emily as my first English teacher in Singapore.

初到新加坡，我对于如何提高我的英文水平束手无策，连续考试的不及格甚至让我有了放弃的念头。然而，Ms Emily 的出现改变了一切。
Ms Emily 是一个真正知道怎么教学生的老师。多年的英语教学经验使得Ms Emily把她的课安排地井然有序。这样让我能够一步一步地学习掌握从简单的单词到复杂的写作技巧，点滴的进步让我对自己的英文越来越有信心。Ms Emily教的考试技巧与学习方法也非常有用，让我能够更有成效地学习英文。在Ms Emily的帮助下，我才能够把我的英文成绩从刚开始的F9提高到O水准的B3，最后在A Level拿到了A。

She has the ability to simplify anything – yes, anything – which makes her a wonderful teacher. Her speech itself embodies the beauty of English language. Having taught by her for almost two years, I dare to say that I understand all her teachings. Her ways of teaching are unparalleled. I believe that every person can easily make sense of what she says. Her 13 years of experience in teaching English has awarded her the sagacity in English. She always gives constructive feedbacks on my works and also helps me to identify my strengths and weaknesses through personal consultations. Ms Emily knows her students well individually. Ms Emily is a great woman, a maestro of language and a teacher that every student dreams of having. Being an educator for almost 13 years, she knows and masters the magic of making learning intriguing and engaging. Her explanation is always clear and easy to understand. Learning tasks are always designed carefully to tackle crucial aspects and skills. Praise as well as constructive feedbacks are always given highlighting the weakness and strength of every individual. Moreover, unlike many teachers, Ms Emily never believes in the lesson being a chalk and talk. She encourages students to try new techniques and to be creative. Learning English thus becomes such a pleasant experience rather than an arid and laborious task as many of us would imagine. During her lesson, assignments and interactive activities have definitely enriched my vocabulary and improved my understanding of the nuances of language as well as the art of writing. Being taught by her for almost two years, English has no longer been a tool that I desired to master but it has become a part of me, of my heart and soul.

When I arrived in Singapore on my scholarship and took my first diagnostic test at school, I failed my composition section by a mark. I became afraid of the GCE English syllabus like the proverbial blind man who is afraid of the dark.
I am not exaggerating when I say Ms Emily has helped to assuage that fear, slowly but steadily building up my confidence. Cognizant of my zeal for English, she helped me adapt to this relatively alien syllabus. She was patient with my mistakes and offered words of encouragement, both of which forged a powerful unison and helped me improve.
Within a year, I had attained the Top Rank in the entire cohort for English Language, and if I said Ms Emily did not have a part to play in it, I would be lying.
Informative, all-round and an awful lot of fun. That is how I would condense my experiences in Ms Emily's lessons into simple words. A proud student of hers for nearly two years now, it is safe to say that she has been one of the best English teachers I have had the privilege to study under. Having a pre-existent predilection for English and the art of writing, I found Ms Emily a huge aberration from the average-Joe teacher; she is something of a cynosure, drawing the attention of every single student with her unique way of teaching. If there could be a fun way of imparting knowledge, Ms Emily would be a harbinger in doing so. There is no chance of any student leaving her class with a feeling of ennui - such is her fabulous timing with humour! Moreover, she builds a very personal bond with all her students and at the end of the day, the teacher-student relationship is boiled down to a friendly exchange of ideas. She regularly teaches us many life lessons, which just happen to be integrated in her lessons and discussions, providing us with some sound knowledge in both life and the literary arts. It does not take a genius to see that Ms Emily puts her heart into what she does for her students and she always provides us with the most frank and yet constuctive feedback. She is neither reluctant to shower appreciation and nor is she afraid to voice out her criticisms in a way which only makes us want to improve further.
If I had to say it like Master Yoda would, "Truly the great one, she is." :)
